Troll Battle
Some days are more scary then others and this one is a scary day. Lieutenant Paul and his band of 30 heavy foot have been tasked with driving 3 trolls out of the swamp lands. Assisting the Lt. is a small group of 10 light bow and 10 light infantry. As it turns out those shooters will prove pivotal. Once the tolls saw our force they began moving to attack us.
Going into wet swamps is not what most of the heavy foot signed up for and they were reluctant to move forward but the light infantry love this terrain. Moving till they came in range the light archers began a devastating fire on the leading troll causing him to halt in confusion to let the rest of his friend come into the fight.
At this point the leader of the trolls sprang into action but he to fell afoul of the archers and became confused about what was going on.
On the right side the last troll moved to attack and learned the lesson of fire. The light infantry had brought with them some veteran bowman who knew how to shoot.
Thus in just a few minutes all the trolls had taken grievous wounds but they were not done. Having left the light units to exposed the trolls managed to maul both light units for 4 men each. The light infantry fell back but the archers stood their ground.
With the trolls now hurting and in open ground the heavy infantry came into action. Only the troll on the right was with in reach so that heavy infantry moved to assault. Because the troll had been weakened the heavy infantry put a hurt on the troll but it did cost the heavy infantry one soul.
From here the light archers delivered another withering fire and a troll fell dead in the stinking waters of the swamp. The other two trolls made one last attempt to attack but being to weak to have any affect they turned and fled through the swamp looking for safer places to live.
Because the Lt. had no horse to follow the trolls there was not point in going any deeper into the swamp. It had already cost the Lt. 9 good men for the killing of one troll and the driving out of the other two. All in all a good day but not one to repeat soon.
