                       Race to the Hill

A Napoleonic Battle using Osprey Publishing rules Rebels & Patriots

 Our clash this time was between British and French.  The scenario was for the British to try and get their light gun on the hill and the French to stop them.  But the rules have a cool thing that if box cars or snake eyes are rolled something happens.  In this game the British had two shots from snipers and the French got a Discipline bonus for one of their skirmish units.  As it turns out the French also got a light gun through this game mechanic.  From that point it turned into a race for the hill because the first one with a Light Gun on the Hill won the game.

The British had 2 units of Line Infantry modified to be good shooters.  They also had a Light Gun, a unit of Light Infantry and a unit if Skirmishers.(see below)

The French had 2 units of Line Infantry modified to be good attackers.  They also had a unit of Grenadiers, 2 units of Skirmishers and a unit of Light Cavalry.(see below)

The British started out strong, moving and shooting at will.  They quickly drove off the French Light Cavalry and one unit of Line Infantry.  The British Skirmisher unit began a dual with one of the French Skirmisher units that lasted the rest of the game.

The French had trouble activating and their shooting was terrible.  It looked like the British were going to easily win the game but at the last minute the French Grenadiers came over the hill and drove back a unit if British Line Infantry in confusion and almost was able to capture the British Light Gun.  The French were then able to get their Light Gun on the hill first, thus giving the French a minor victory.
