Okay, I think I may have changed my mine. Last night I was considering Sharpe Practice but I did something dumb. Before I want to bed I want over to my rules library to see if there were other options I had not considered. It turns out there was another choice.

We all like the Daniel Mersey rules system and I had picked up a copy of Rebels and Patriots a few years ago. The plan was to use it for another era but looking through it made me think that it would work for Napoleonic battles. So here I am going to try them out.

Troll Battle

Some days are more scary then others and this one is a scary day.  Lieutenant Paul and his band of 30 heavy foot have been tasked with driving 3 trolls out of the swamp lands.  Assisting the Lt. is a small group of 10 light bow and 10 light infantry.  As it turns out those shooters will prove pivotal.  Once the tolls saw our force they began moving to attack us. Going into wet swamps is not what most of the heavy foot signed up for and they were reluctant to move forward but the light infantry love this terrain.  Moving till they came in range the light archers began a devastating fire on the leading troll causing him to halt in confusion to let the rest of his friend come into the fight.   At this point the leader of the trolls sprang into action but he to fell afoul of the archers and became confused about what was going on. Rebels & Patriots

Our club loves Danial Mersey's rules system.  We have played a lot of Lion Rampant and Dragon Rampant and now we are working on Xenos Rampant and Rebels and Patriots.  The plan was to use my "Lego Style" figures and play Sharpe Practice but then I remembered that I had a Danial Mersey system that might work for Napoleonic games even though it was not set for that.   There were several solo play games to get the feeling of the rules and as expected they were good.  Our first club game was exciting and everyone really liked the rules.  Rebels and Patriots might be easier the Lion Rampant with the only thing you have to remember is 6's and 2's are your target numbers for most things other then combat.   With the addition of both Prussian and Russian figures to our collection we can now do some fun stuff.  Currently, I am working up a 1812 game in the snow.  We will see how things progress.

Regular 2nd Tuesday of the month meeting of the Friendly Table Game Club; April 8th, 2025

                       Race to the Hill A Napoleonic Battle using Osprey Publishing rules Rebels & Patriots   Our clash this time was between British and French.  The scenario was for the British to try and get their light gun on the hill and the French to stop them.  But the rules have a cool thing that if box cars or snake eyes are rolled something happens.  In this game the British had two shots from snipers and the French got a Discipline bonus for one of their skirmish units.  As it turns out the French also got a light gun through this game mechanic.  From that point it turned into a race for the hill because the first one with a Light Gun on the Hill won the game. The British had 2 units of Line Infantry modified to be good shooters.  They also had a Light Gun, a unit of Light Infantry and a unit if Skirmishers.(see below) The French...
