Train Time

30 years ago my wife and I bought our 5 year old son a Lionel O gauge train.  When he got married it left or house for his.  When I started war-gaming with "Lego Style" building blocks I began to see trains and thought about getting one.  This last Christmas I was given some money and the day after Christmas I found a "Lego Style" train half off and so I bought it.
 
The moment it came I knew I was hooked.  But it did have a few problems.  It had a manual     on/off switch  and speed controller.  I had seen that there were remote controlled train so I set about learning how to make my new train that way.  It was easy all you needed was a receiver and a hand held remote.  It did take some remaking the cabin to fit the receiver but I have been dealing with rebuilds for some time.
 
Next I had to put a connector on the front of the engine so I could use it as a pusher.
 
Today I got my second engine.  This was by request of my wife because she wants a steam engine running around under the Christmas tree next year.

Chain of Command AAR Battle of Kasserine Pass February 25, 1943.

 Yesterday I went over to Pittsburgh to the Soldiers & Sailors Tabletop Gamers club to run a game of Chain of Command.  Paul Lawson invited me to come and run a game at the club’s Winterfest.  This club was new to me but it turns out I was acquainted with several of the people involved.      The club meets at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust, Inc. in down town Pittsburgh.  There can not be enough said about this location.  It is both a museum and an event space.  The club meets in the paneled room filled with all of the CMH recipients for the state of Pennsylvania.  The building itself is wonderful but it is filled with some great historical material making it a place everyone should visit.     The club has a good cross section of both young and old and all of them interested in playing games and running them.  It was a delight to spend the few hours I did with the club members and I will mak...

Walker Tanks Make No Sense!

 A few years ago I had a conversation with an engineer about using walkers as tanks and he hated the idea.  Over the course of a hour we talked through all the issues related to walkers as tanks and I had to agree with him. It is at that point I got rid of all of the walkers I had in my 28mm sci-fi collection. But now I have entered a new era using "Lego Style" troops.  Most of the figures and vehicles are either Star Wars or 40K so I have started to build a world where those two universes collide.  One of the problems is that I want to be faithful to the ideas used in those worlds and both use walkers. Thus I made the choice to build some walkers.  But to buy walker kits were to expensive so the choice was to make some.  Because "Lego Style"  is a building system it is easy to dig through the pile of building parts and make legs for the walker.  It was then a simple task to take some unused vehicles and change them from wheeled to legged.  A...
